Start with a date
A DATE TO PLAN AROUND
An estimated arrival window
A window, not a promise.
Enter the first breeding date to see a general due-date estimate. A known ovulation date provides a different, narrower reference window.
How it works
- 01
Enter the first breeding date
Use the first permitted mating date for this cycle. The calendar displays dates, not times or time zones.
- 02
Add ovulation only if known
A known ovulation date becomes the sole calculation anchor. It is not interchangeable with the first day of heat or an LH-surge date.
- 03
Review an estimated window

Calculation method
Without an ovulation date, PupSaga uses the first breeding date plus 63 days as a convenient estimate. The reference window is +58 to +72 days, as described in Merck Veterinary Manual’s whelping guidance. The +63-day estimate is a product convention; it is not the mathematical midpoint of that window.
When an ovulation date is supplied, the estimate is ovulation +63 days and the reference window is +62 to +64 days, following Merck’s ovulation-based timing. This is a different anchor from the LH surge. We do not combine the two ranges.
The timeline only marks the entered anchor and the estimated window. It does not claim an exact fetal development schedule. Dates more than 14 days apart trigger an input check to avoid mixing cycles; that is a product consistency rule, not a fertility assessment.
Calendar arithmetic handles month ends and leap years without adding fixed 24-hour durations. The result does not confirm pregnancy, predict litter size, or judge delivery risk. You can keep a separate dated weight record in your dog’s profile.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator confirm that my dog is pregnant?
No. It estimates dates from the information you enter. A veterinarian should confirm pregnancy and advise on the expected due date.
Why is the breeding-date window wider?
Mating and conception do not happen at a reliably fixed interval. A known ovulation date provides a more specific biological anchor, so it uses a separate reference range.
Can the ovulation date be before the breeding date?
Yes. The tool allows either order. It checks only that dates are valid, not in the future, and no more than 14 days apart.
Does being outside the range mean something is wrong?
The range is not a diagnosis or a delivery-risk threshold. Do not use this tool to make decisions about treatment, induction, or delivery care; discuss timing with your veterinarian.
